È nata ad Hannover ma vive a Londra. Oltre ai libri illustrati, crea giocattoli e piccole installazioni. Tra le sue numerose pubblicazioni, There are cats in this book (Walker Books, London 2009), e il sequel There are No Cats in this Book (Walker Books, London 2012), entrambi finalisti al Cilip Greenaway Award. Nel 2011 ha vinto il Booktrust Best New Illustrators Award. Nel 2016 ha vinto il Little Rebels Award e un English Association Award con I am Henry Finch (testo di Alexis Deacon, Walker Books, London 2015; Io sono Marcello Fringuello, LO Éditions, Milano 2016), e il Children’s Book Award della Federation of Children’s Book Groups con Is there a Dog in this Book? (Walker Books, London 2015). Tra gli ultimi libri pubblicati in Italia, Gli scacciaincubi (Panini Comics, Modena 2015).
